White Island Volcano Landing

Words cannot express the
experience that is walking on the active crater floor of White
Island. This unique lunar landscape is an integral part of our
Pacific ring of fire. This steaming beauty is located 52km off the
Bay of Plenty Coastline and
HELiPRO will take you there.
White Island (or Whakaari as it was named by the Maori before
Europeans arrived) is one of New Zealand’s most active volcanoes.
But don’t worry. The constant rumblings and large plume of steam
do not mean that the island is about to explode,
scientific monitoring is constantly assessing the island's status.
White Island’s active volcanic
vents, steaming Crater Lake, bubbling hot streams and desolate
mining ruins combined create a surreal experience. When present
the sighting of Dolphins in the Pacific Ocean over which we fly
contrast to create an inspiring excursion.

Exclusive to HELiPRO
Contrasting volcanoes and
landscapes combine to provide an unforgettable lifetime
HELiPRO
excursion. From the steaming crater floor of White Island to the
high and exposed summit of Mount Tarawera, this is your unique
opportunity to experience New Zealand’s two most prominent
volcanic features.
Mount Tarawera is a dormant
volcanic rift in the centre of a chain which extends from the
volcanoes - Ruapehu, Ngauruhoe and Tongariro on the central
plateau, through to White Island in the Bay of Plenty. The violent
eruption of Tarawera, during the early hours of 1886 June 10th,
was one of the most notable events of the 19th century. We will
take you to the summit, where you can enjoy powerful views of the
craters and domes formed during this huge eruption.
White Island (or Whakaari) is
one of New Zealand’s most active volcanoes. The White Island
volcano is estimated to be between 150,000 to 200,000 years old.
It was named White Island by Captain Cook, the first European to
sight the island. The scenery is lunar-like and truly spectacular.
White Island is privately owned
and as a result is in pristine condition and is a fascinating
natural laboratory. Tourists from all over the world have enjoyed
her uniqueness. Visiting this beautiful place is an experience you
will never forget.
