Food & Wine:
Dinner
Dinner at this Wanaka lodge is always memorable; a group of
travellers from many countries exchanging experiences, indulging in
superb food, sampling fine regional wines and enjoying professional
service in a relaxed atmosphere. Alpine sunsets can be magic and
candlelit indoor/outdoor dining is often possible on warm Wanaka
nights. You are free to dine at Riverrun Lodge Monday to Saturday
inclusive or we can recommend an increasing number of good
restaurants in Wanaka resort. However we do recommend advance
reservations at the lodge for dinner to avoid disappointment.
Fresh produce and simple but
innovative cuisine. Less is more. Menus include tender Cervena
venison, New Zealand lamb, duck, terakihi, clams, salmon; enhanced
with locally grown herbs, olive oils and verjus. Our selection of
the best New Zealand cheeses always features in our menus or on a
cheeseboard. The area is renowned for stonefruit (plums, apricots,
cherries and nectarines) and these are used whereever possible in
season. The style of cuisine is New Zealand - European, but we also
love more exotic flavours and endeavour to discuss special dietary
options with guests. Menus change frequently to reflect what is most
in season.
Wine
At Riverrun we have made it a policy to stock an ever expanding list
of superb local wines. Since Riverrun opened Central Otago has
burgeoned as the fastest growing wine region in New Zealand. Between
10 minutes and half an hour away are some of the earliest
established wineries and some of the country's best.
Breakfast
Breakfast is as sumptuous as you care to make it. Coffee, tea and
herbal teas, a buffet of local preserves, fresh orchard fruits and
fruit juices, home-made muesli and other cereals, hand crafted
breads, and a selection from the lengthy breakfast menu that ranges
from decadent to fresh and piquant. Breakfast is included in all
room rates.
