Treetops Lodge & Estate - The Grounds

The picturesque grounds of Treetops spread before you to the valley vista as far as the eye can see.

Spring water cascades over rocks carrying trout, which welcome you as you cross the bridge at the Lodge entrance. Running under the great room the stream is free to flow leading you out to manicured lawns, which stretch to the hills beyond.

Paths beckon and diverge into the woods taking you to secluded villas, waterfall walks, glow-worm caves and private benches dappled by sunlight. Nature gently envelops the Lodge with all her beauty.

Enjoy gentle strolls around the grounds soaking up the serenity of the outstretched valley. Bask in the beauty on a sun-drenched lounger on the lawns, breathing the pure air of an ancient paradise. Cool your feet in the refreshing, spring waters, which cradle the lodge. Discover the natural treasures of this 'land before time' as you wind your way along fern-framed trails.

The Estate is 2,500 acres of restored, native virgin forest and ancient trees, a haven for native birds and wild game. Treetops is your own private playground of spring fed streams, cascading waterfalls, trout filled lakes, valleys and bluffs.

Entrance

Upon arrival at Treetops Lodge & Estate, pass through the gates and be transported to another world, time and place. Wind your way up through a New Zealand virgin forest canopy of native flora and arrive at the luxurious lodge.

A warm greeting and welcoming hand from the Treetops team, draws you into the magnificence of the place. Sparkling cascades of water tumble over rocks on either side of you; nature embraces you with the ornately carved wooden Rimu doors depicting the beauty and abundance of the valley. They open, beckoning you into the splendour of the Great Room. The harmony between man and nature is realized.

Everything that is New Zealand from carvings, local artistry of the outdoors to hand carved beams depicting Maori folklore is in this uniquely New Zealand Lodge.

The Great Room

Enter the Great Room, rich in textures and luxurious furnishings that echo the beauty and simplicity of the great outdoors.

Beyond the glass doors the stream continues effortlessly, slipping under the famed Great Room, carrying Rainbow trout on its way. You overlook the valley, and as far as the eye can see you look out at Treetops.

Let your senses be enticed by the flickering natural wood fire. Sink into the soft furnishings that adorn the room. Impeccable attention to detail is evident from the copper light fittings, trout door handles, to the hand carved Rimu beams overhead. From the outset you feel one with nature with the rippling of water, stone and timber finishes to the rich scent of cool, fresh virgin forest air. Library

Warmth envelops you in this timber-panelled sanctuary crafted from the wood on the estate with a richness of a past steeped in culture. Great Maori Chieftains watch majestically from the historic artwork, which adorns the walls. Daydream on the window seat overlooking the swirling stream or curl up with a novel beside the blazing fire.

Games Room

Here the distinguished tastes of yesteryear are captured with the antique billiard table and memorabilia from the pioneering days. Stylish designer lighting throughout the lodge allows for ease on the eye and a dim serenity while you sip a cocktail as the sun slowly fades like a dream and slips into night.

Dayroom

Cool and calm with soothing colours and luxurious fabrics sink into a sofa as time eases by. Watch the whispering water as it flows over the rocks, framed by native fern fronds. Contemplate the cycles and mystery of life as it unfolds, celebrating renewal and new beginnings. Feel rested and refreshed.

The Conservatory

Breakfast in this light, airy space soaking up the peace. Vast windows and skylights invite Mother Nature in.

Rich, warm and enticing, the crafted, candlelit table stretches out where many a guest traveller has dined over clinking glasses while sharing fascinating stories with fellow guests. Trout swim in the water along side the room as the valleys yawn below. Great spaces for intimate dining, or sharing this place with new friends.

Treetops Lodge and Wilderness Estate is one of New Zealand’s premier luxury lodges. A key point of difference that sets Treetops apart from other lodges is our deliberate decision to create a family and group friendly environment.

While we offer the secluded villa option for couples, Treetops has designed an accommodation option that is perfect for families or groups. The Lodge Wing has been created to offer a home away from home and is designed to reflect the best in luxury accommodation while still maintaining that family home atmosphere!

Totally self contained, it has its own fully equipped kitchen, large dining and living area, with four beautifully appointed suites each with its own ensuite. The living area opens out to the magnificence of the valley vista and the privacy of the wing is enhanced by the single entry way access to the rest of the Lodge and the separate exit to the opportunities offered by the Estate.

This facility is perfect for families or groups who want to enjoy the company of their travelling companions in a high quality shared communal living area, but still enjoy the privacy of their own room and facilities.

The Lodge Wing will also suit travellers who enjoy the company of others or those who prefer to be close to the amenities in the Lodge.

Around and About Rotorua

The secluded, half-moon valley of Treetops nestles on the very edge of the Mamaku Plateau, in the heart of one of the most picturesque and remarkable areas in New Zealand. Over a dozen lakes lie amongst rugged hills, cloaked in primeval forest, while less than an hour’s drive away is Lake Taupo, the largest lake in New Zealand.

At a somewhat greater distance is remote Lake Waikaremoana, best reached by helicopter for the drive is long and tortuous. Scattered throughout the region are not only some of the most spectacular geothermal features to be seen anywhere in the world, but also an impressive array of volcanoes – extinct and active!

As if all this were not enough the area is also a centre for Maori, the original inhabitants of the land, who’s intricately carved marae (meeting house complexes) are frequently seen. Then there is the fishing, the hunting, the golf, the vineyards, the skiing, the walking… In fact the region probably offers more for the day-tripper than anywhere else in New Zealand; indeed quite possibly than anywhere else in the world!
