Situated high in The Remarkables
mountain range and surrounded by craggy peaks, The Remarkables Alpine Park
provides a spectacular, true alpine environment.
Extending over 700 hectares of reserve land, there’s 220 skiable hectares
accessed by three quad chairs within three sunny, wide open bowls.
From the first timer through to those who like to be challenged by narrow
chutes, rock drops and off-piste powder, The Remarkables is all about fun,
families, freestyle and the love of the big mountain environment.
For backcountry lovers, the 1.5km Homeward Bound is considered the best
in-bounds backcountry run, and a short walk from the Shadow Basin Chair
delivers access into the chutes’ amazing big mountain terrain. For the
not-so-serious, slide down groomed tracks on specifically designed
inner-tubes in The Ozone Tubing Park – a must for pure fun seekers.
New for 2008, “The Stash” project – a Burton signature terrain park, the
first in the Southern Hemisphere, adds a kilometre long feature packed
“back-country park experience”. This complements the existing 150m FIS
specification Parklife Superpipe, FruJu Beginner Park and UP & GO Terrain
Park. The Remarks is a true freestyle haven with jibs for all levels.
The 2008 installation of two new surface conveyor lifts doubles the
capacity of the learners’ area, located within full view of the café sun
deck; a great place for families to watch learning children or friends.
Watch out for the playful antics of New Zealand’s native parrot, the Kea,
residents at The Remarkables.
Snowmaking capacity has also been increased on main trails. There’s an
award winning ski and snowboard school, café, retail shop and equipment
hire, and regular live music on the deck and tunes in the parks add to the
relaxed atmosphere.
The Remarkables scheduled opening is June 21 until October 2008.
