Day 1 - Launceston to Cradle
Mountain |

Arrive in Launceston where Edwardian and
Victorian architecture feature amongst the
streetscapes of Tasmania's second largest
city. Visit The Design Centre of Tasmania or
some of the many galleries and fine museum.
Leave Launceston and travel west passing
through historic villages amongst rural landscapes
and waterways with bush settings
on your way to Cradle Mountain. |

Day 2 - Full day Cradle
Mountain |
 |
A full day to explore in the Cradle Mountain
National Park. Visit Dove Lake, with its
splendid mountain backdrop and scenic circuit
walk. Explore bush walks where you can watch
for wildlife including wombats, echidna,
platypus and the elusive Tasmanian Devil. |

Day 3 - Cradle Mountain to
Strahan |
 |
Traveling directly to Strahan this morning
arrive in time to join an optional West Coast
Wilderness Railway trip to Queenstown (return
by coach). The historic 35 kilometre railway
of tight curves and spectacular bridges
clambers through rugged wilderness, dense
Tasmanian rainforest and steep gorges.
Heritage carriages are pulled by historic
steam locomotives. |

Day 4 - Full day Strahan |
 |
Departing from the Strahan waterfront this
morning take this 5 1/2 hour
cruise into the World Heritage wilderness.
Enjoy the fabulous scenery of Macquarie
Harbour and the Gordon River. Visit sites of
significant ecological and historical
importance and venture into some of the
world's last remaining temperate rainforest.
After all this still have some time this
afternoon to relax around Strahan. |

Day 5 - Strahan to Hobart |
 |
Opportunities today to enjoy wonderful short
walks and side trips along the route to
Hobart. Visit Nelson Falls, The Franklin River
Nature Trail and call into Lake St Clair.
Allow some time for a stroll to Russell Falls
in the Mt Field National Park and visit
the mighty swamp gums. |

Day 6 - Full day
Hobart |
 |
Visit the notorious historic penal settlement
at Port Arthur on the Tasman Peninsula for an
insight in the plight of European convicts
sent so far from home for often trifling
crimes. Explore the highlights of Hobart
including the city harbour with its restored
warehouses at Salamanca Place that now house
galleries, shop and restaurants. Alternatively
take a cruise today to Peppermint Bay for
fabulous coastal scenery and a delicious
lunch. |

Day 7 - Hobart to Freycinet
National Park |
 |
Pass through coastal settlements and fishing
ports, with views across to Maria Island, as you make your way north east to
Freycinet National Park. A stunning mix of
rugged peaks, Long sandy beaches and crystal
clear waters await you at the end of today's
journey. |

National Park |

Walking trails within the park take you to
breathtaking lookouts, rocky outcrops,
secluded beaches and charming small bays. See
the iconic Wineglass Bay, the granite peaks of
Mt Amos and the secluded Hazards Beach.
Take a dolphin spotting cruise or a cruise and
hike combination. |

Day 9 - Freycinet to
Launceston |
 |
Return to Launceston today taking in some of
the highlights of the Heritage Highway. Visit
charming villages, where convict labour was
used to turn staging posts into permanent
townships through the construction of
picturesque bridges and buildings.
Cottages, town squares, stone churches, old
storefronts and hotels help retain the
atmosphere of a bygone era.
