Cape Kidnappers Lodge New Zealand

Set atop 6,000 rolling acres of pasture land, The Farm encompasses terrain which is reminiscent of Montana but plunges 800 feet into the sea. The cluster of lodge buildings are suggestive of a working farm. A combination of stone and weathered wood, the buildings combine rustic materials with comfortable up-to-date furniture. The common areas of the Lodge offer a number of welcoming and comfortable spaces. 

The 50’ heated infinity pool and Jacuzzi. A poolside cabana with mini-bar provides a shady relaxation area.

Our Spa sits atop the hillside above the Lodge. Choose from a variety of treatments including massage, reflexology, body wraps, facials, pedicures, manicures and hair care. Couples can enjoy this ultimate indulgence together in the Spa Suite.

Each suite has room-controlled air conditioning, high-speed wireless internet, remote control flat screen LCD TV, DVD, CD player with iPod connection, security safe, fully stocked complimentary mini-bar, walk-in closet, spacious bathroom with heated towel rack, separate WC and shower stalls, oversized bath tub and twin vanities. 180-degree panoramic views of the farm, golf course and Pacific Ocean are enjoyed from each suite's private balcony.

LODGE SUITE
4 large suites - 708 sq ft / 65 sq meters
Our largest suites, located inside the Lodge Building, offer the convenience of proximity to lodge facilities, and full (wet) mini bars.

RIDGE SUITE
8 suites - 683 sq ft / 63 sq meters
Situated atop the skyline ridge to the southwest of and a short walk from the Lodge.
Spacious, comfortable and private with fireplaces and full (wet) mini bars.

HILLTOP SUITE
10 suites - 500 sq ft / 46.5 sq meters
Situated on top of the hill above the Lodge, offering comfort and spectacular vistas.
Two Hilltop Suites have the option to add an interconnecting second smaller bedroom.

Used in conjunction with a Hilltop Suite, as an additional bedroom (shower only).

Breakfast
Breakfast is served from 7:00 am to 10:30 am and features a buffet of local and imported fruits, home-made muesli and cereals, yoghurts and freshly baked pastries. In addition, a hot menu featuring eggs, pancakes, crisp bacon, ham and sausages may be ordered.

Lunch
Lunch is served from 12:00pm to 3:00 pm at the Lodge. The Lodge lunch menu offers a more extensive range of dishes ranging from sandwiches to three course lunches. The Clubhouse offers a small selection of light options. Sandwiches to eat between nines can be ordered prior to tee-off at the Clubhouse. Lunch is not included in the tariff, but can be charged directly to your suite account. Room Service is available on request.

Cocktails
The complimentary cocktail hour begins at 6:30 pm. Hot and cold hors d’oeuvres and a wide range of wines, beer and spirits are served.

Dinner
Dinner is served from 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm. Our dinner menu changes nightly and features the finest New Zealand lamb and beef as well as the best local produce and seafood. Wine and bottled water served with dinner are not included in the daily tariff. During cocktails and dinner, gentlemen are required to wear a jacket (the Lodge has jackets available for guest use at Reception).

Cape Kidnappers offers a wide variety of active and passive pursuits both on the property and in the surrounding region. We invite you to explore everything this beautiful corner of the world has to offer.

Walking Trails
Whether your pleasure is a short stroll, an early morning jog, or a long walk, you will find them all here at Cape Kidnappers. Walk to the 200 year old Kahikatea tree or jog or walk along Trigg Road which overlooks truly amazing views. For a longer walk head out to the Kanuka Block and enjoy beautiful native bush and inspirational views of the Pacific Ocean. Please contact Reception to order a snack pack of light refreshments and a trail map. Guided walks of the property can also be arranged.

Gannet Colony
Cape Kidnappers is the home of the largest, most accessible mainland colony of gannets in the world. The
20,000 gannets at the Cape are members of the Booby family, with distinctive black eye markings and a pale gold crown. Gannets are sized midway between a sea gull and an albatross. Visitors to the colony will see adults and young nesting in rows carrying out their daily routine. The birds can be seen from September until early May when they leave New Zealand for Australia. In September they return and build their nests to ready for the hatching of chicks during December and January.


Spa
We invite you to relax, rejuvenate and revive your body and spirit at our Spa. Located on the hillside above the Lodge, the treatment rooms feature amazing views across the valley towards the sea or over the pine forest to snow crowned Mount Ruapehu. Choose from a variety of treatments including massage, foot reflexology, body wraps, facials, pedicures, manicures and hair care. Relax and enjoy a memorable experience.

Golf
Enjoy this stunning setting while playing our golf course designed by the legendary golf architect Tom Doak, the par 71 golf course measures 7,119 yards (6,510 meters) and will challenge golfers of all skill levels. Completed in 2004, Cape Kidnappers Golf Coursehas been hailed as one of the great modern marvels in golf and is currently ranked the 41st best golf course in the world by Golf Magazine. Picnic Sites
Take one of our picnic hampers and visit some of the secluded and picturesque picnic spots on the property. We can drive you from the Lodge or you may prefer to walk a well marked trail. Maps are available at reception.

Trout Fishing
Hawke’s Bay offers a wide range of fishing opportunities. Its major rivers, the Mohaka, Tutkuir, Ngaruroro, Waipawa and Tukituki, are populated with wild brown and rainbow trout. An experienced local guide with a four wheel drive vehicle will pick you up at the Lodge and take you to one of more than 20 different rivers or lakes. Alternatively, we can arrange a true wilderness fishing experience utilizing a helicopter to take you to remote rivers and streams that abound with trout. The fly fishing trip will be tailored to your individual need and skill level, and will give you access to the finest fishing New Zealand has to offer.

Four Wheel Drive Experience
Our local farmer and a 4-wheel-drive specialist can guide guests on adventure tours and provide individual 4-wheel-drive instruction. Our specialists can accompany guests to unique locations, ranging from private beaches to the top of the 3rd Hill - a spectacular place to see the sunrise.

ATV Quad Biking
Take control of the throttle and ride with your guide over the stunning 6,000 acre sheep and cattle farm. These vehicles are an excellent way to explore off the beaten path with the aid of an experienced guide. Drivers must be a minimum of 16 years of age to operate a Quad Bike.

Mountain Bikes
Explore and enjoy our 6,000 acres of The Farm at Cape Kidnappers by bike. We have Adult and children’s mountain bikes are available for guest use.

Kiwi Discovery Walks
Kiwi Discovery Walks now part of the Cape Kidnappers Guest Activity Program. Lodge guests are able to take part in a very special activity with Kiwi expert Dr. John McLennan and his team who will guide small groups on their radio tracking and monitoring, activities giving guests the chance to get up-close and learn more about one of New Zealand’s most endangered and rare birds.

Scenic Flights
Heli Air Hawke’s Bay offers two scenic flights over Hawke’s Bay lasting, approximately 30 minutes each. Choose between a tour of the stunning coastline surrounding Cape Kidnappers or fly over Hawke’s Bay’s picturesque vineyards, orchards and farmland.


Maori Heritage Tours
Maori are extraordinary people possessing a proud and powerful heritage. Let them share a bit of their fascinating history and culture with you. Visit a Marae (Maori Village), experience a Powhiri (Maori Welcome), and drink in the words of the tribal elders and hear the captivating legends they will share. Half and full-day tours are available.

Hot Air Ballooning
Experience the joys of hot air ballooning over Hawke’s Bay. Float over farmland, orchards and vineyards and admire the backdrop of distant mountain ranges. Flights take place during the first few hours of daylight and are dependant on weather conditions. Flights last approximately 1 hour, but guest should reserve 4 hours of total excursion time.


Paragliding
Soar along the cliffs of Te Mata Peak and enjoy the panoramic views of the Tuki Tuki river valley below. On a good day you can even see majestic snow capped Mount Ruapehu. Flight time is approximately 15 minutes. Experienced guides are available.

Food & Wine Tours

Wine Tours
Hawke’s Bay is New Zealand’s second largest wine growing region and home to over 70 wineries. We can arrange a wide variety of wine experiences from guided tours to wine appreciation classes in our own wine cellar. Tours range from short excursions where you will get a taste of the local styles to a full day experience which will take you into the cellars of some of New Zealand’s top wineries with time to enjoy lunch at one of several highly recommended winery restaurants. Some of the most sought after wines in the region are from Te Awa winery in the Gimblett Gravels Wine Region. As a guest of Cape Kidnappers, we can arrange a personal tour of the cellars with a private tasting and three course lunch. This is a fantastic way to learn about the Winemaking process in a relaxed and friendly environment. Tours are half or full day, and can be designed to suit your requirements.

Epicurean Tours
Hawke's Bay enjoys a Mediterranean climate which provides a rich bounty from the land, sea and rivers. Food tours will give you the opportunity to meet the local producers of cheese, olive oils and orchard fruit and taste their products. Hawke’s Bay is privileged to host two of the most popular markets in the country. Be sure and visit Black Barn Grower’s Market every Saturday morning over summer and the Hawke’s Bay Farmer’s Market every Sunday morning.

Horse Treks
Ride on horseback through pine forests up to a spectacular look-out then enjoy a small picnic. Enjoy great views over the Tuki Tuki valley to Te Mata peak and out to the Pacific Ocean. Or have the stable arrange a trip to your specifications and ability.

River Kayaking
Our stretch of river is suitable for kayakers of varying skill levels. Experience an easy drift down a scenic
river with warm water, great swimming holes, an abundance of bird life and rural scenery. Enjoy a picnic lunch on the riverbank.

White Water Rafting
Put on your life vest and enjoy a day of white water rafting on the Mohaka river. On the gentle stretches
between rapids, take in the breathtaking scenery. A day designed for guests with a sense of adventure - rapids range from relatively gentle to steep drops.

Beaches
The Hawke’s Bay coastline offers plenty of opportunities to partake in water activities. Ocean Beach and Waimarama provide solid scenery and excellent swimming. Our chefs can provide a delicious picnic lunch.
